Raw Banana Fry Recipe | Vazhakkai fry recipe with step by step pictures and instructions. Raw banana fry is simple and quick stir fry made with raw banana seasoned with spices. This goes well as side dish with rice. Perfect to enjoy with rasam rice. This is the most common way amma prepares raw banana fry.

Generally we do observe fasting on auspicious days like amavasaya, Krithigai and other festivals and occasions. But we don’t follow any food restrictions other than eating only veg on that day and make particular dish depending on the occasion. My mom makes vazhakkai fry and poosanikai(white pumpkin) sambar on the day of amavasaya(no moon day) every month.  You can skip garlic and make it as no onion and garlic dish.

Raw banana fry is simple and quick stir fry made with raw banana seasoned with spices.

Ingredients

  • Raw Banana/Vazhakkai 2 medium size
  • Salt as required
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric pwoder 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp optional
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Mustard 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal 1/2 tsp
  • Hing 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic 3-4 optional

Instructions

  1. Peel the skin and cut raw banana as round slices of medium thickness.
  2. Boil them adding little salt for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Drain the water and keep it aside.
  4. Now add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste to raw banana.
  5. Mix nicely till it is coated with vazhakkai.
  6. Heat oil and temper with mustard, urad dal and hing. Once it slightly browns add the crushed garlic.
  7. Then add the coated raw banana to it.
  8. Keep stirring at regular intervals and cook the till golden. Add more oil if required.
  9. Raw Banana Fry is ready. Enjoy with hot rice.

Notes

Adjust the spices according to your taste.

Skip the garlic if you don't use them when fasting.

Keep stirring at regular intervals so it is evenly roasted

It can be made in tawa instead of pan too

How to make Raw Banana Fry with step by step pictures

Heat oil and temper with mustard, urad dal and hing. Once it slightly browns add the crushed garlic.

  • the vazhakkai fry looks so crispy and delicious. I love vazhakkai and use it frequently in my kitchen. This method of yours will try the next time I make .
  • Plantain stir fry looks scrumptious. Love to have it with simple rasam rice and curd rice . A favourite at my place . Your version looks so crisp and delish.
  • Wow Narmadha, such a simple but lip smacking preparation. Though I wouldn't be able to have Vazhakkai fry on fasting days as we can't have urad, mustard and turmeric, it would make a lovely side dish or snack on other days.
